About me
Dr. Courtney Simpson is a proud first-generation college graduate whose career has been dedicated to providing holistic support for first-generation and underserved student populations for over 15 years. She serves as Senior Director of TRIO Collegiate Programs and Pack Support Programs at NC State University, which includes TRIO Student Support Services, Student Support Services STEM, TRIO Ronald E. McNair, Pack Promise, 1887 Scholars, and First in the Pack. Dr. Simpson earned her B.A. in Mediated Communication from NC State. She then received an M.Ed. in Counselor Education and a Ph.D. in Higher Education, where her research focused on Black first-generation college women at selective, predominantly white institutions. Her professional expertise spans student success, journey mapping, community building, and financial empowerment. She is deeply committed to fostering equitable and inclusive environments in higher education. Dr. Simpson continues to advance student-centered initiatives that enhance career identity development, staff training, and institutional support structures.
